the fourth wife, the king loves her ALOT and adored her. he spoils her with expensive clothings, and splurge wonderful things on her.
the third wife, the king loves her too. he always shows her off to neighbouring kingdom.
the king also loves his second wife. she is very kind, confident, considerate and patient with him. whenever the king has problems, he would confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times.
the king's first wife is very loyal partner and has made many contribution in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. however, he did not love his first wife. although she loves him deeply but the king hardly pays attention to her.
one day the king was ill. and he knew his time was short. he thought about his luxurious life and wonder " i now have four wives but when i die, i would die alone."
then he ask the fourth wife, "if i die, will you follow me?" the 4th wife answered "no way!" and walked off without a word. her answer cut him like a knife.
he then ask his third wife the same question and the wife answer " NO! life is short, when u die, im gonna remarry" his heart sank.
the same question was asked to his second wife and the reply was i'm sorry, i cant help u this time. i can only walk with u to your grave." her answer devastated him.
then a voice called out, "ill go with you i'll follow you no matter where you go"
the king looked up and saw that his first wife was very skinny as she has suffered from malnutrition and neglect.
greatly grieved, the king said "i should have taken care of you with love and care when i had the chance"
in truth, all of us have four wives.
our forth wife is our body. no matter how mnuch time and effort we lavish on it to make it look good, it will leave us when we die.
our third wife is our possessions, status and wealth. when we die it will all go to others.
our second wife is our friends and familiy. no matter how much they have been there, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
and our first wife is our soul, often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. however, our soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go.
hence, cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of us that will follow us to the throne of god an continue with us throughout eternity.
some of u might say eh so familiar wan the story. yeah, i plucked it from TheStar (yes, i do read the newspaper!). i thought its extremely connected to life. dont you think so?
i'm gonna pray.
